Student Committees
CommitteeCommittee Summary and Objectives
Growing Leaders - Career Success
Chair: Ella Moore
Battle Mountain FFA strives to encourage and develop career interest and success. The Career Success Committee has been established to ensure members have all the resources and experiences in order to succeed in future careers. One event that has regards to career success is the Nevada FFA State Convention. During this event, students participate in CDEs and LDEs. Both are very beneficial in helping develop career interest and skills. We hope to have at least 50 members participate in CDEs or LDEs at State Convention.
Growing Leaders - Healthy Lifestyle
Chair: Kendall Mudd
Our Chapter knows that a healthy lifestyle is crucial to the well-being of both our community and members. Therefore, the Healthy Lifestyle Committee has been organized to provide opportunities for people to maintain healthy habits and mindsets. The Color Run is an event we hold to do just that. It spreads health awareness by encouraging all ages to be active but with a fun, colorful twist. Our goal is to have at least 50 people participate in the Color Run.
Growing Leaders - Leadership
Chair: Hadley Nield
Leadership is very valuable to all of our members. The leadership committee has been organized to help instill responsibility, integrity, discernment, and other leadership qualities in our members. One of the events that members from the Battle Mountain FFA Chapter participate in is Winter Leadership Training. During this event, chapters from around the state get to mingle with others, compete in LDEs, and attend leadership workshops. We hope that 25% of our chapter attends this event.
Growing Leaders - Personal Growth
Chair: Khali Peterson
Self-improvement among members is highly important to Battle Mountain FFA. The Personal Growth Committee is in charge of giving members opportunities to do just that. Jerky Sales is an event where members sell jerky sticks around the school, to friends and family, or door-to-door. They get a portion of the profit to pay for FFA trips or for official dress. This event not only adds to their FFA accounts, but also develops a sense of ambition, responsibility, and work ethic among members.
Growing Leaders - Scholarship
Chair: Sadie Mudd
Battle Mountain FFA is well aware of how scholarship is the top priority for members. When members are meeting academic standards, they are not only able to participate in conferences and events, but are also more apt to succeed. Therefore, this committee is dedicated to assisting members with meeting all the criteria for their academics, as well as encouraging them to maintain it.
Building Communities - Citizenship
Chair: Juliet La Riva
Having a strong connection with the community is essential to success in both FFA and the community itself. Therefore, the Citizenship Committee was established to get Battle Mountain FFA involved in the community. One way we do this is through the Sagebrush Reclamation project. Our chapter grows the sagebrush in a greenhouse, and both FFA and community members can volunteer to help replant them. This is a great way for the chapter and community to collaborate together for a beneficial cause.
Building Communities - Economic Development
Chair: Austin Duval
Economic development is crucial to the success of a community. That is why this committee's goal is to find ways to help the economic welfare of our community. One of our events we use to do this is the Figurine Scavenger Hunt. This is an event where we hide various figurines in local businesses, and those who find them receive prizes. This will spread awareness to FFA, but our main goal is to attract business to these stores, which will hopefully improve their economic welfare.
Building Communities - Environmental
Chair: Haley Lapada
The Environmental Committee is committed to creating more environmentally responsible individuals. For example, we have a duck pond by the high school where many people go to fish and have fun. Battle Mountain FFA takes it upon themselves to organize a biannual cleaning, where community and FFA members volunteer to pull weeds and pick up trash in and around our duck pond. We also try to educate people, especially youth, on how to properly treat and take care of these places when they visit.
Building Communities - Human Resources
Chair: Angela Lopez
This committee focuses on the well-being of people in our community. One event they hold is the Hygiene Drive. In the Elementary, Middle, and High School, there are always supplies stocked for those who are in need. These usually include various hygiene products. So, each year Battle Mountain FFA holds the Hygiene Drive to restock the supplies. We make it a friendly competition between classes to collect the most supplies as they can. We also extend it to the community, and put donation boxes out in some businesses.
Building Communities - Stakeholder Engagement
Chair: Chase Lutz
Battle Mountain FFA takes this committee as an opportunity to extend our appreciation to our stakeholders. Not only do we recognize them at the Banquet, but we also use our Chapter Jamboree as a way to get involved with our stakeholders, building a sense of partnership and cooperation. The Jamboree is like the chapter runoffs for our welding teams competing at the State Convention. We invite one of our stakeholders, Nevada Gold Mines, to help us judge the competitions.
Strengthening Agriculture - Agricultural Advocacy
Chair: Adan Nevarez
Agriculture Advocacy is the effort to promote all things relating to agriculture. To do this, we send out a post that's about our Ag. teachers. This is an effort to not only show our appreciation to our teachers, but also to spread awareness of FFA.
Strengthening Agriculture - Agricultural Literacy
Chair: Geovanni Ruvalcaba
Teaching people about agriculture is crucial to its support and success. It also creates a general appreciation and understanding for where your food comes from and who provides it. Battle Mountain FFA tries to stress Ag. Literacy to the elementary ages in our event, Ag. in the Classroom. In this event, we go to the elementary school and set up interactive, fun stations that hope to educate the kids about basic agriculture.
Strengthening Agriculture - Chapter Recruitment
Chair: Damian Solis
It is necessary to spread interest in FFA so that our chapter can grow and thrive. We take National FFA Week as the perfect opportunity to do this. We decorate the school in all things FFA, participate in dress up days, and (the highlight of our week) hold an assembly. During the assembly we announce competitors, advisors, and officers. We also set up fun activities for the whole school to participate in, all with the purpose of encouraging people to join.
Strengthening Agriculture - Safety
Chair: Demarion Wiggins
There are so many areas of safety that can be covered when it comes to FFA/Agricultural activities. One area we try to cover is environmental/fishing safety, specifically at our Duck Pond. We teach community members, especially youth, how to use this area while still keeping themselves and the wildlife safe. This may include fishing safety, picking up trash, and much more.
Strengthening Agriculture - Support Group
Chair: Kendall Mudd
Battle Mountain FFA recognizes how important it is to have strong connections with the community, including members' family and our advisory board. That is why, each year, we hold the Back to School BBQ. We invite our community to come eat, ask questions, and mingle with others. We also take this opportunity to introduce ourselves as officers, since this event is held at the beginning of the school year. We hope to build stronger connections with those willing to help support agriculture.
